Center for Sustainable Journalism Posts Ads for Two Journalism Fellows

The Center for Sustainable Journalism at Kennesaw State University has just posted two ads for its new Visiting Fellow in Professional Journalism Practice program. One posting is for a reporter, the other for an editor. Each are for six-month appointments renewable for up to two years.

The visiting reporter fellow is beat specific, aimed at covering juvenile justice issues in Georgia for a new initiative the Center will be unveiling in May, 2010. The visiting editor fellow is aimed at individual applicants who are already developing a journalism oriented project worthy of possible incubation at the Center for Sustainable Journalism. The fellows will be paid a salary comparable to what public media pays, they will receive office space and support from the Center’s staff.

The visiting editor fellow will receive help in developing a business plan, in advancing their idea via social media and in building an effective website. The goal will be to move the fellow’s concept from incubation to a stand-alone entity. The Center will be looking to have a return on its investment.

The two Visiting Fellow in Professional Journalism Practice positions will advance the Center’s mission of ensuring that high quality, ethically sound journalism continues to have a vibrant place in our democracy.

To fulfill that mission the Center will produce, research, nurture, incubate and launch sustainable journalism projects, most often by forming partnerships with entrepreneurial minded individuals, media companies and academic institutions.

The Center’s work, including both of these positions, is made possible thanks to a generous multi-year grant from the Harnisch Foundation under the direction of Ruth Ann Harnisch.
